Sharing the Struggle: Using Protocol Analysis to Model the Writing Process in Introductory Composition

Abstract

Protocol analysis is typically used as a data-gathering tool, but it also serves as an effective teaching tool. When composition teachers use this "thinking out loud" approach as they write in the classroom, they model the challenges and successes of transferring ideas to written text.
